Leisure Time - Books and Films for the Small Trader

Reading and watching movies is certainly fun. Not all in life should be trading.  But, as a small trader, even when you are having fun, you should be learning!  Here are some interesting stuff to take a look:

Books

If you are like me, you will enjoy better a book than a movie.  The list below are interesting, fun to read, and very educational stuff.

Reminiscences of a Stock Operator

The classic of classics.  If you are or pretend to be a trader, and haven't read it, you don't know what you are missing.  Describes the life and times of the biggest trader of all times: Jesse Livermore.  Written as a fictional autobiography, it has a very intimate style, very easy to read.  The lessons taught here are timeless.  All big traders recommends it.

How I Made $2 Million in the Stock Market

How I Made $2 Million in the Stock Market . An autobiography from Nicolas Darvas, a professional dancer that earned more than two millions trading by telegraph, while he was presenting his show around the world.  He started as an amateur trader, and after some mistakes he crafted a successful trading system... that hit the market big during the 50-60's. It describes very clearly the initial reasoning of an amateur trader, and you follow his evolution and learning.  If you are just starting, you will recognize yourself in many of his initial mistakes.

Confessions of a Wall Street Analyst

Confession of Wall Street Analyst

. This is the modern equivalent to the Reminiscences. Based in a true story, describes in great detail the games played in Wall Street, the building of the large technological stock bubble during the 1990s, and the subsequent crash, with a lot of details of the World Com affair.  Dan Reingold, a top Wall Street analyst for fourteen years, reveals it all in this book, and knowing the Wall Street pro tactics, he even comes to say that the small trader ... should not exist.  For him, the small guys should be buying mutual funds managed by pros that won't get easily fooled.  Although we disagree with this extreme opinion, we must say that this is a revealing book.  The writing style captures you from the beginning, you will read it from cover to cover in a row. And after reading this book, you won't read again with the same eyes any analyst report.
